In Kazakhstan and Russia ,
it's bad luck if a black cat cross the road ahead you. Actually, nowadays it's more bad luck for the black cat, because everybody tries to hit the poor cat attempting to cross the road.

A toddler is staggering in front of the way, an elder woman who is behind the toddler uses a kitchen knife to cut something on the ground and reverses backward as if she were cutting a rope behind the baby. Other family members are standing around the scene. Have you seen it before? It is a kind of ceremony in south China for a toddler when he or she starts to learn walking. In general,Chinese people believe that elder people could bring health, luck, and richness for young children and help them fight evils. In this ceremony, because people believe that there is a rope that trusses up the baby's legs and pulls the baby hard to move forward before they start to learn walking, elder person helps the toddler by cutting the rope so that he/she would have easy way to go in his/her life. Does it really work? Who knows.

In Saudi, and most islamic countries we have something called evil eye(HASSAD) and it's so sensitive in our religion. Also, evil eye some times makes people hate each others. For example, when someone see your new car he should mention ALLAH name because the evil eye may damage or some times ruin your car. And that may cause hate between people.

Karen,

I don't understand this part:

"because people believe that there is a rope that trusses up the baby's legs and pulls the baby hard to move forward before they start to learn walking."

Is there actually a rope? You say that people "believe" there is a rope, so this is unclear to me...

Yes,This is true. When a turtle is 150 years,it is classify as young turtle,so many of them can reach 300 years,so when your baby met a baby turtle ,this baby turtle will meet his grand-grandson to tell him some beautiful memories about his big grandfather.

In Burkina Faso, like all over the world, people have a superstition about scale. They believe that someone who walk under a scale will carry with him bad luck and they are very careful concerning that.
Another thing is when your palm is scratching. In my country, people believe that when it happens, it means that you are going to have some money. Unfortunately, it didn't work with me. :-)

Holly,

It's not a real rope. it's an imagination. I think it is a part of superstition. Probably it is better to write the sentence in this way(I hope the sentence I wrote is correct):
because people believe that human babies won't be able to walk like other animal's baby as though there had been a rope that had trussed up the baby's legs and had pulled the baby hard to move forward before they started to learn walking.

These are some of the superstitions related to marriages that people believe in my country, Venezuela:

1.) Some people think that we should not get married on Tuesdays or on Januarys. I do not know the reason and the effect caused by this superstition. Now, I have just realized that I got married on a Tuesday! But I do not care about it.
2.) Other is that the bride must use something old to evocate past experiences; something new to have hope in the new life; something borrowed that means friendship; and something blue to make sure that your husband will be loyal. I did it, just in case.
3.) Third, in your wedding day, it is going to be raining if you have eaten in a pan, frying pan, or something like them.
4.) Another superstition is that after the religious wedding, guests should throw rice when the newlyweds are leaving the church. It is considered as a custom that brings fertility.
5.) Finally, the most frequent and respected superstition is that the groom must not see the bride's dress before the religious ceremony. People say it will bring bad luck.

In China, people don't plung chopsticks into the rice bowl because it means unlucky. In ancient China, before a criminal be killed, he or she was allowed to have a full meal. There was a square piece of meat on the rice bowl and chopsticks were sticked the meat and rice straightly. When the chopsticks fell down, it meant the meal was finished and the criminal would be sent to the execution field. As a result, nowadays people persist believing this special rule. When I was young, I didn't understand it. Once I plunged my chopsticks into my rice bowl, my grandmother immediately took them away and told me this story. Maybe there are some other story about this superstition, this is the one I know.

There are a lot of superstitions in every country even in each city. Superstitions could be different and also could be similar. I want to tell you about most interesting which we have in our country.
There is one very interesting superstition about cockroaches. If you have in your house black cockroaches so you will have plenty of money. But if you have red or brown you would get in troubles. As common cockroaches appear where a lot of left food on a tables. Foe instance, if there are any bread crumbs. Why black belong to reach people and red and brown to people who would have problems? It is easy explanation. Because you easily can kill black one, but hardly – brown and red, so you will problems with it.
Another one is about fly. If a fly drop in your soup that means you will get a present. Why? To be honest, nobody knows, it is just traditional saying!)
The most popular superstition in my country is about black cat, crossing the street. Everybody hates this cat after it, there is a song about this saying that black cat will never get the luck. But I don’t want to talk about this exact saying, it is famous one. I want to introduce you another one about black cat. If you have a black cat in your house you will be defend from the robbers. Robbers are afraid of the black cat, because they will have a lot of problems after it cross their rout. As a conclusion, you see that black cat could only be a bad luck sign; it could be a good one, but only for owners.
In my opinion, there are the most interesting superstitions in my country. But it doesn’t mean that only these, there are a lot of them. If you are interested in it, you will look for them, or you can ask me and I will tell all than I know. I hope you enjoy knowing it!

in Vietnam, when people build ladders for a house, they never stop at an even number such as 2,4,6,8.. the reason is that they believe an odd number such as 3,5,7,9 means the house lacks of 1 in order to be perfect,so they will receive something which is a luck. on the other hand, the first time when i came to America, i realized that the steps of ladders are often in even number
